This course develops English seminar skills through discussions of famous British short stories by Arthur Conan Doyle (inventor of Sherlock Holmes), DH Lawrence and Angela Carter. Classes involve reading the stories for understanding, followed by (1) practice discussions and (2) graded ʻfishbowlʼ discussions.

To learn seminar skills so that students can have confidence in discussing literature in English.
To develop critical vocabulary and critical thinking skills in relation to literature.
